15 Days to Halloween

Devoted Readers,

First of all -- thanks for all of the great comments, e-mails, and face book praise concerning my #TuesdaySerial – Such A Fine Son.

I will, unfortunately, be out of town this upcoming Tuesday (10/19) and unable to get the conclusion printed on my blog at the usual time.

However, the following Tuesday falls on Halloween Week and I think it is only fitting to air my conclusion on Tuesday, October 26th.

Hope to see you there . . . I promise that you’ll not be disappointed!

Halloween, to me, is more of a feeling than a holiday. The chills and thrills that I get from watching those old horror movies flit across my television screen just make me feel alive! Call me twisted if you must but I just know that there are many other horror fans out there like me who shiver at the thought of all the cool horror stuff spewing from our televisions at this particular time of year.

It was my love of watching old horror movies, reading scary mystery books, and never missing my favorite science fiction television shows that spurred me towards some spooky writing of my own.

For those of you with inquiring minds, Such A Fine Son is based simply on the random meandering of my twisted imagination. I hope you’ll come back next week to see how the story ends . . . Dr. Canthrop would really like that!

Until next week then . . .

My Media Musings II

My Media Musings II:

Sometimes I have questions. Being a TV junkie in a world of other TV junkies, I’m going to throw a few television questions out to my devoted readers. Please feel free to answer, comment, or leave questions of your own -- for future musing.

1. Are Super Nanny’s parent meetings becoming ever more intense? Sometimes after her initial observations I become afraid FOR the parents, knowing what’s coming. When her show first started her meetings seemed calmer . . . more helpful. Now they are confrontational and severe. Perhaps some marketing guru on the show decided that this would increase ratings. I still keep watching, but those parent meetings are starting to scare me. Hmmmmm.

2. I am an avid watcher of Court TV . . . I know, I know, it can be pretty silly sometimes but I’ve been hooked for years. My two favorites: Judge Judy and People’s Court. My question is: would anyone in his or her right mind really sue a relative? Mothers suing daughters, brothers suing brothers – what the heck? If I sued my siblings or my children every time they didn’t repay a loan, I’d have a guest spot on Judge Joe Brown! Can you dig it? “Now Weezel . . . you’re just takin’ care of business!”

3. Does anyone else think that the singing and dancing snots in the Mucinex commercials are disgusting? This is the best they could come up with? The idea is ludicrous. Every time I get a cold now I think about those scary little green dudes performing in my chest cavity – it’s what good nightmares are made from. I hate to think this is an ad-man’s triumph in a sea of unremarkable commercials. Anybody else have an opinion?

My Media Musings I

My Media Musings I:

Sometimes I have questions. Being a TV junkie in a world of other TV junkies, I’m going to heave a few television questions out to my devoted readers. Please feel free to answer, comment, or leave questions of your own -- for future musing.

[1.]What the hell is Fringe about? When this new program first aired, I missed the very first episode due to a conference. I thought this show might be Fox’s new X Files replacement, but I’ve watched every subsequent episode, and I still don’t know what’s happening. I know that the FBI is involved (like X Files), there is one male and one female agent connected (like X Files), and that occasionally a really cool monster shows up (like X Files), but basically I find this show very difficult to follow. I don’t know what dimension the characters are working in most weeks, but it seems there’re more than one. Anybody have a clue as to what’s going on here?

[2.]Does anyone remember that in 1977 a remake of Jimmy Stewart’s It’s a Wonderful Life came out starring Marlo Thomas? The movie was called It Happened One Christmas. Marlo Thomas played Mary Baily, the female version of Jimmy Stewart’s character. I may take a beating for this, but I liked this remake better than the original movie and I’m wondering why it never shows up during the holidays like all of the other sappy Christmas stories out there? Does anyone know anything else about this movie and why it doesn’t repeat like most others?

[3.]Is there any other person on TV as annoying as Mary Murphy? I used to really enjoy watching the show So You Think You Can Dance. This year I haven’t watched it nearly as much because I simply cannot take Mary Murphy’s screaming, braying, caterwauling, and unfocused judgments. Anybody else have an opinion?
